Inspiration behind FarmDidi

She is one of the most ambitious and competent women we know, and her dream is to see every woman from her village earn a respectable income from her hard work.

She is a natural leader! She wonderfully manages around 300 self-help group women in her village; you can see at least 10 women visiting her daily for queries and seeking solutions to their problems. You can also see her proudly speaking about PaniFoundation, where she works as a trainer to help her village manage its water budget and use water judiciously.

She is also an ambassador for organic farming in her village, actively persuading other farmers to make the shift. Furthermore, our Didi is a distributor of sanitary pads to village girls. It is unfortunate that menstruation is still considered a taboo in the village, but she is educating people and changing mindsets one pad at a time.

And last but never least, she is a farmer. Her land might be small, but her heart is huge. If you ever happen to be in Gadana (Aurangabad), you will get to experience it firsthand—she has literally fed us all for days with all that she has, served with sheer love.

A mother of two, Rekha Didi got married when she was in the 11th standard. She has now enrolled in a graduation program so she can study further and secure a better government job.

Needless to say, her husband has stood right beside her against every single taboo and societal norm to make this possible. While villagers might talk to her husband for giving her "so much freedom," we think he is the wisest of all!

FarmDidi envisions helping farmer didis like Rekha shine so they can fulfill their dreams and aspirations.
